Reaction against Nuclear Power – station build - up

Mjaft! Movement is very concerned about the steps that Prime Minister Berisha and his government is taking towards a Nuclear-Power station build-up at Shkodra region.

Not only the humanitarian crisis the northern part of Albania is passing through, but  this  government is also trying to put these areas against a higher risk, by progressing on its absurd plan of setting up a Nuclear Power – station which has been openly opposed by the inhabitants of these region before. 

In many cases this government has shown extreme irresponsibility on managing of high risk zones and protection of human lives.  We are all witnesses that it has never been shown the minimum ability by this government to prevent either tragedies like “Gerdeci” one or ensure the Football National Stadium lighting. 

In this sense, prime minister’s will to transform a small country like Albania, with only 3 million people into an “energetic superpower” , it is not only inappropriate and ridiculous, but it presents above all a risk against citizens security,  sustained development of this country and against the security of our neighbors, who has been alerted even before, towards this kind of  initiative

We are becoming, at this point, witnesses that the bargaining of self proclaimed elite of this country are being substantiated into real projects that do set up catastrophic scenarios, now not only on specific zones , but at the  scale of national level.

Today, Shkodra citizens who has expressed themselves firmly against such an initiative, are unable to raise their voice as the result of the flood caused by the mismanagement of the government itself. Therefore, the steps that the Prime Minister is taking in these moments constitute a well thought, direct blackmail towards Shkodra and all around inhabitants, who are waiting for the vital compensation from Albanian government

In a time that Albania finds itself within an economic crisis , within a humanitarian crisis which has covered the northern part of the country, within a crisis that has not been addressed to called  “Gerdeci Tragedy”, and within a political crisis which has disabled all the institutional safety pins which ensure the vital needs as well as  well functioning of a State, this government is preparing another scenario which finds the country disarmed in front of potentially fatal threats.
 
Mjaft! Movement requires the Albanian government immediate interruption of any institutional action which aims the substantiation of this absurd plan.
Mjaft! Movement also requires the opposition to fulfill its institutional role in order to stop these actions which go against national interests.
Finally Mjaft! Movement makes a call to civil society as well as international community to take an active role towards the deterrence of such a foolishness.
