“Mjaft!” Movement calls all Albanian MPs for a review of the bill on State Information Service
25.02.2010
“Mjaft!” Movement expressed its concern over the recent attempt of the Albanian government to utterly control the activities of National Intelligence Service (SHISH), by placing this very important government service under unlimited tutelage of Prime Minister Sali Berisha. Moreover, this draft Law highlights the personal goal of chief executive, as it is proven in the past, to have exclusive control over any private or state information, up to the limits of surveillance of its citizens. In the meantime, the wiretap powers competences are extended to the Ministry of Interior and Finance, so that the confirmation of General Intelligence Service with general rules, can not be seen otherwise but as a typical perverse act of the former Soviet regimes that goes up to the limits of vojerizm. This shocking initiative exposes, once again the Albanian government will of getting full power potential that still not under the absolute control of the Prime Minister and his cabinet. Also highlights the increasing risks that threaten to Albanian democracy and our fundamental rights and freedoms form our political class hunger and unlimited power over the citizens of this country.
It should be noted that although a new task for State Information Service relates to the protection of parliamentary democracy by attempts to overthrow it, in fact this bill lights the power of Parliament as the highest representative of the will of citizens, shifting the Albanian secret services into the personal decision making of the Prime Minister.
At this point, beyond the ranking deteriorating of relations between Albania and international institutions, the real warning should be given by Albanians, either engaged in different groupings or as common citizens. Moreover, when their governance behaviour proves a metamorphosis of the system from a fragile transition democracy into a sophisticated tyranny that controls everything.
“Mjaft!” Movement calls all Albanian MPs for a review of the bill on State Information Service, to ensure normal functioning of this institution, under primary parliament control. Every other judgment, would be unacceptable and would represent a step back against the will of the people for closing once and forever the chapter of dictatorial tendencies and aspirations of the Albanians for integration into the community of countries when the rights and fundamental freedoms of the individual is the first priority.
